meet Flo Knoyle, equine photographer & filmmaker

Have you ever felt like a square peg in a round hole? I feel you. I was never quite a “normal horse girl”. I used to get bullied for being a bit “different”. For the duration of my teens I was too afraid to be myself in the equestrian world.

I think I can speak for most of us when I say that my Heart Horse saved me - Cracker. He taught me to have the confidence and discipline to believe in myself. He taught me to pick myself up and keep going when times were difficult.

He taught me patience, kindness, and trust. He shaped my soul, and without him I wouldn’t be who I am today. I know you have felt this with your horse too.

Now that I’m older, I feel so empowered to be unapologetically me. The tables have in fact turned and people describe me as fierce, tenacious, alternative and sassy. I still definitely don’t fit in to the traditional “equestrian norms”. And I’m PROUD of that.

That same obsession with horses, identity, rebellion, emotion and storytelling is what led me here. I first started photographing horses in 2008, when I was 12 years old and completely consumed by cameras, horses, and the need to create something that felt different. In 2017, that lifelong obsession became Flo Knoyle Photography: an award-winning equine photography and filmmaking brand for horse owners who want more than just to stand and look nice in their field.

Since then, I’ve photographed horses across the UK and internationally, been published in UK magazines, created cinematic equine portraits and films, and built a body of work rooted in emotion, connection, luxury, and also with a healthy dose of beautiful chaos.

My creative background also reaches beyond the equestrian world. I’ve been commissioned by Channel 4 for Random Acts, worked in locations for ITV, created compelling brand and corporate content for media companies, and worked on film projects screened at the BFI IMAX. My film work has been screened around the world at independent film festivals, and in 2018 I won my category at the Equus Film Festival in New York. In 2024, I also won "Equine Photographer of The Year" at the Equestrian Business Awards, recognising the work I have built within the equestrian industry.

But underneath all the awards, screenings, publications, international photoshoots and cinema, the heart of it has always been the same:

Horses change us.

They hold pieces of us that no one else gets to see. They carry us through grief, awkward eras, heartbreak, identity crises, lonely years, bad decisions, brave reinventions, and the deeply personal moments where we finally start becoming ourselves.

That is what I photograph.
